Welcome to my 3rd weekly marathon/fundraising update for friends and family who have generously contributed to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
This week was a great confidence builder. The oppressive heat finally broke, and I went into my long run with temps in the 60’s. It was a good thing, since Running Club decided to be more ambitious than I had expected—15 miles turned into 16. With that kind of mileage, I learned that you can cover a huge amount of ground. From Lake Calhoun, I ran downtown and back again—something I would have thought was nearly impossible. The run was actually pleasant and absolutely gorgeous. I ran along the Mississippi River for several miles and enjoyed beautiful views of both the river and the city. It was exactly the run I needed to believe that I can go the ultimate distance in less than 2 months.
On the fundraising front, I had another strong week, adding 7 donors and $800 to my total. As I approach my goal of $10,000 with 8 weeks still to go, I am considering raising my goal yet again. When I set my original goal was $3,000, I worried I was being overly ambitious. I truly had no idea that I’d receive such enthusiastic support.
Week 11 will be special, since Team Merrie Miles will be together for the first time this weekend. We’re gathering in La Jolla for my cousin Ryan’s wedding, and a run is on the agenda for Susan, Patty and me. We’ll all wear our Team Fox shirts for a photo, which we’ll post to the Team Merrie Miles page next week.
Best,
Meredith
